My son and I just got back from Guntersville and we hunted over the thanksgiving holidays With Jonathon Henry, Jarod and his guides. Without a doubt one of the finest hunts we have had! Basswacker Guide service not only scouted the lake but was able to put us on the ducks that we were looking for. The guides work very hard to assure you success and the amount of ducks that fly is unreal. Beautiful lake and they arranged our lodging and gave us the opportunity to hunt different areas of the lake and a flooded area above Scottsboro. If duck hunting is your passion then give Jonathon a call, truly a great guy to hunt with and a day in the blind with him or Jarod is priceless! Jack & Colby Frost, abingdon, Va.

I have always been skeptical about using a fishing guide, but Jonathan has made me a believer. This was my first ever guided trip. I learned more from Jonathan in 8 hours than I have learned fishing on my own in 4 years. He is very knowledgeable and willing to help regardless of your skill level. I plan to fish with him again. Date fished: October 14, 2013.

My family had always loved to bass fish but when I became a widow it was not something I could do anymore. I had always depended on my husband to run the trolling motor so it was something I had missed getting to do. When my daughter found the website for bass whacker we knew it was a trip we had to take. I am so glad we came and fished with Jonathan and his guide service. He was patient, helpful and very understanding to our situation and a skilled fishing guide. He knew just where we needed to be to land some awesome bass. We made a wonderful memory we will never forget and plan on booking another trip soon. You wont find a better guide on the beautiful lake Gunttersville than Johnathan!

I purchased this trip for my husband as a surprise for his birthday. The trip was very easy for me to purchase and set up, Jonathan told me everything I needed to know, all I had to do was get my husband and his friend to be at the right place at the right time. I purchased a full day (8 hours) during the spring. My husband had a great time, he learned a lot of new stuff and caught a bunch of big bass. This was the one of the best gifts I have ever given my husband. I will probably give him another trip in the future maybe during the fall.

I fished with Jonathon in late April. Had a great time and caught a bunch of fish. Booked a duck hunt for my son and son-in-law. Will definitely fish with him again!

When I first met Jonathon, I thought he was too young to be much of a guide. But I was really surprised by his knowledge, expertise, and over all professionalism. He has a great sense of humor, and is really easy to talk to. He is very informative and will discuss all aspects of your trip, including what you expect from him. He did a great job putting us on fish and teaching the A-Rig system. We fished with him on the 2nd of April 2013. I will be back every chance I get to fish with him again.

When I tell anyone I fish with my husband they assume I sit on the back of the boat and read. Boy are they wrong! I fish just as hard as him and many times I have out fished him! We take several trips a year to Guntersville Lake and back in June my husband mentioned hiring a guide. Like I said we fished there several times but it’s such a huge lake sometimes we are baffled on where to start, how to fish it ad so on. I was hesitant due to the fact I am sort of a tightwad with money and in 2011 we had already hired a guide with which I was sorely disappointed. That guide had the same mentality when it came to women who fished. You know the “good ol boy” way of thinking that women don’t know how to fish or they are just going because their husbands made them. He catered to my husband, making sure he was the one that was put on fish. I was given lures that had seen better days and was all but forgotten on the back of the boat. To top it off that guide seemed like he didn’t know even where the fish might be. We only caught one each. I was less than thrilled too as I watched him make and receive numerous phone calls to set up his next guide trips. My husband and I felt we were not a priority to that guide. So when my husband mentioned he had hired Jonathan Henry (Basswhacker) for our June ’12 trip I had my reservations. The day we met Jonathan at Seibold ramp he was on time and eager to get us started. Right off the bat my husband told Jonathan that I had reservations about a guide. I think Jonathan took this as a challenge and he was determined to make this a great day for us, more specifically me. Right away Jonathan’s friendly demeanor and personality made us feel like we had known and fished with him for years. He was professional but not in a way that made us feel like only clients. He was genuine and if we had not caught fish it would have still been a fun day on the water. But we did catch fish, lots of them and good size. He was not hesitant and took us to places on the lake he fished and knew they were there. One particular spot, he insisted I take the front of the boat with him. He made a few casts to be sure they were biting then handed me the rod. I pulled one fish after another in. Like I said previously the other guide was seemingly unconcerned if I caught fish but Jonathan was determined that I would catch. We laughed about it because I out fished my husband and Jonathan seemed to get a kick out of it too. One thing I really liked about him was that he never made me feel like less of a fisherman because I was a woman. He instructed me on technique in a way that was not belittling. He always made sure that he gave my husband and I equal “attention”. As he drove us to various locations on the lake, stopping and catching, I felt like he respected the fact that I was a woman who loved the hobby/sport of bass fishing. Not once did he think I would be unwilling to hold a fish for picture or be grossed out by touching them. He spoke to me like he did my husband when it came to various lures and fishing lingo. We hired him for a full day but around dinner time he asked if we wanted to grab some food. It was a nice break to refuel and sit down for a bit. We even got to meet his wife who met us at the restaurant. The four of us talked like we had known each other for years. As the evening would down we were back on the water. A storm could be seen brewing in the distance so Jonathan suggested we head back toward the ramp where we launched. We made one final stop for some top water Spook action. It was fast and furious and Jonathan again was attentive to not just my husband but me also. He fished a little with us at that stop and he hooked into a huge fish. Handing it to me to hold for a picture, he jumped beside me so that my husband could snap the photo. At the end of the day, we caught a lot of fish, made a great friend and had a ball and I left Seibold ramp, feeling like not just a woman who went fishing with her husband but an equal angler in the boat. Jonathan, I appreciate that more than you know!! Tight lines and until the next adventure, Shellie P~

Me and my 11 year old son went fishing with Jonathan on 8-4 & 8-5 and had a very good time. One of my main concerns when searching for a guide was to find someone who would have patience and take time with him. I personally didnt care whether I caught a fish or not as this trip was mainly for him. I definately feel like I nailed it by going with Jonathan as my son took a liking to him pretty quickly. He took time to show him a few tricks, answered any questions that he had, and made sure that he was having fun. The fishing was tough as expected but he still managed to put us on some fish. Anyone looking for a guide should definately give Jonathan a call. From the first time that I spoke with him on the phone till our last day on the water he was truly a professional. We are already planning our next trip for late October.

My wife and I take quite a few fishing trips each year and often hire a guide to help us shorten the learning curve on a new body of water. Of all the guides we have ever hired Jonathan is the only one that far exceeded our expectations. June is not known as the best time to fish in Alabama but we had bursts of activity where we were catching fish, good fish at that, on every cast. We were fully impressed with his willingness to share his expertise, his ability to put us on fish, and his helpful attitude in helping us learn a new part of the lake. Jonathan helped my wife and I create a day of fantastic memories on a great lake with a great guide and I would recommend him unequivocally as a true professional and a pleasure to spend a day with. If you want a great day on the water then you need to talk with Jonathan, you will not be disappointed.

I took a trip to Guntersville for a club tournament on Feb 27. I was hesitant about getting a guide to help out on the pre-fishing but after discovering how many members were doing it I thought I better get one. I have never used a guide and really didn't know what to expect but I must say that it was the best money I spent on the entire trip. Jonathan was very courteous and honest. He asked what our expectations were and then worked his butt off to meet them. We had a lot of laughs and caught a bunch of fish. And the best thing about it, out of the five guides that our members hired Jonathan put us on more quality fish than any of the others combined. All I can say is if you want a guide you need to give Capt. Jon a call!

Just spent 2 days on Guntersville with Jonathan Henry. We asked him to do two things, teach us the ins and outs of Alabama Rig and help us catch some fish. This guy is phenomenal. Best guided trip every. Most fun we have had in years. If you want a guide who is a consumate professional, knows his waters and will work his a** off all day to put you on fish Jonathan Henry is your man. We'll be back.

I met Jonathan at a BFL event in east TN on lake Cherokee back in the summer. We were paired up in that FLW event where I fished as a Co-angler. Right from the bet Jonathan was a nice guy. He helped me get my stuff to the boat and offered me rain clothing when I was not prepared. After about 30 min on the water I knew this guy was the real deal. Jonathan was very organized, focused and driven by the sport. Even though the Cherokee tournament was not a great fish producing tournament I knew that Jonathan was the real deal. When I later found out that he is also a fishing guide at his home lake lake Guntersville I knew that this could be great! I made an appointment for the last week in October and brought a friend with me. After about 10min from our launch Jonathan put us on fish. We fished all day. He showed me techniques, explained a lot and answered a lot of questions. Pretty much all day we caught fish (sometimes even 3 a time) (don’t wanna start anything) and fished a lot of different places on the Lake. Jonathan will work with you whatever your skill level is in fishing. Overall great experience !!

Jonathon and Basswhacker guide service is first class in my book!!!! I have personally known Jonathon since he was a little boy and he is one tough stick when it comes to fishing!!! I had the chance to come to Guntersville in the spring of 2011 and take 2 trips with him and we had a excellent day both days except for the weather!! It rained probably 2 or 3 inches the night before and he was still able to put me on fish!!! i would highly recommend him for any of your fishing needs on Guntersville..If its Tournament fishing or just for fun!!! Im sure he wont disappoint ya!!! He is a AAA plus guide in my book!!!

Being a former professional full-time fishing guide with over 30 years of experience, it is now a pleasure for me get to ride with other guides from time to time. I've been out with Jonathan Henry on numerous occasions, and he is a first-class professional. From staying on the fish to expert instruction I highly recommend Johnathan for those anglers who truly want to improve their over all skills while having a great time on the water.
